Student Placements
ChilliBean is just as passionate about supporting young talent and promoting education as it is about the products we develop - which is why we run student placement schemes in conjunction with some of the best universities in the United Kingdom. Students can opt to take an industry placement at ChilliBean for either a 6 or 12 month period, to acquire the necessary skills and gain valuable experience whilst working within a real work environment.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for web developers who are interested in helping to build and improve our services using the latest technologies such as Ruby on Rails.
Required Skills:
- Programming experience (Ruby on Rails, Perl, PHP, Java etc.) and a good understanding of Object Orientated Programming as well as the MVC design pattern.
- Database experience (mySQL, MSSQL, postgreSQL)
- Experience of building websites using HTML and CSS
- Time Management and organisational skills - we are a small team so you will often be asked to work on various tasks.
Desired Skills:
- Good understanding of building semantic, accessible websites
- Knowledge of using Javascript to enhance a users experience, preferably using a framework such as jQuery or Prototype.
- Have worked with tools such as ImageMagick and FFMPEG
- Experience using Version Control Systems such as SVN or CVS
- Comfortable using Linux
Duties and Responsibilities:
As part of the development team, you will be expected to maintain existing systems by adding functionality and fixing bugs, as well as helping develop new tools and systems. Our existing systems are mostly written in Perl, but experience of Perl is not required as the language is easy to pick up if you have worked with languages such as Java or PHP. We are updating our systems using Ruby on Rails, providing a great opportunity for candidates to work on important projects that have a real impact within the company.

ChilliBean is located in the centre of Soho, right in the heart of the West End of London, offering easy accessibility via train, tube or bus as well as plenty options for places to go out after work.
Type of Individual Required:
We are looking for graduates with a keen interest in web technologies, who can fit into a small team. Individuals should be able and willing to try new things and offer a different approach to problems faced designing and developing web applications.
